A leading digital advertising network specializing in dating services partnered with Advanced Hosting to overhaul its infrastructure and cut operational costs. Facing rising expenses, performance bottlenecks, and scalability limitations in their public cloud setup, the client migrated to our Private Cloud . The transition delivered a 30–40% reduction in monthly infrastructure costs.

Technologies:

OpenStack (cloud platform), Ceph (storage)

Industry

AdTech & Martech

Our client is an inventive advertising network that has carved out a significant presence in the digital ad market through innovative solutions. They’ve particularly excelled in dating services.

The company operates advanced proprietary technologies, a portfolio of over 9,000 offerings, and an extensive affiliate network of 130,000 members. It requires infrastructure capable of keeping pace with its growing demands.

Their existing public cloud setup was becoming a roadblock, however. Rising costs, limited flexibility, and performance bottlenecks hindered their momentum. To maintain a competitive edge, the client partnered with Advanced Hosting to upgrade to the Private Cloud  solution.

Challenge

As the client’s catalogue and customer base expanded, so did their infrastructure needs. The public cloud setup started falling short, leading to three major challenges:

  • Escalating costs. Monthly infrastructure expenses were creeping upwards; the system’s rigidity prevented meaningful spending optimization.
  • Performance bottlenecks. Stiff configurations made it difficult to deploy custom solutions and scale high-IOPS databases; these capabilities are essential for delivering real-time ads.
  • Scalability constraints. The cloud environment could not support their data-driven, compute-intensive proprietary technology; in performance marketing, even minor delays can mean lost revenue.

Solution

To help address the challenges, we proposed a Managed Hosted Private Cloud (MHPC) deployment tailored to the client’s highly specific needs. We mirrored the existing scope of functionalities while offering significantly superior performance at a reduced cost. Our infrastructure, powered by OpenStack and Ceph Storage, aligned perfectly with the client’s objectives.

Here are the key solution components.

High-Performance Cluster

We deployed a four-node infrastructure, combining balanced compute and storage power to deliver low-latency ad delivery and ensure fault tolerance. OpenStack was used for orchestration, and Ceph provided a robust distributed storage layer.

Future-Proof Design

We reserved NVMe passthrough across three nodes to support high-IOPS database migrations in the future. This enabled the client to deploy a fault-tolerant, ultra-fast IOPS database architecture later on, without needing another rebuild.

Rapid Onboarding

The entire migration was completed within two hours. There was one minor issue related to a legacy VM image, and it was resolved within the same day – in an hour.

Implementation Process

Our approach aimed to minimize downtime and make the transition hassle-free. The project stages included:

Results

  • Cost efficiency. Reduced monthly infrastructure spend by 30-40%.
  • Enhanced flexibility. The client gained full control over configurations, image deployment, and scaling strategies.
  • Improved performance. Ceph-backed architecture provides fault tolerance and high-speed data access, which are crucial for real-time ad serving.
  • Database-ready Infrastructure. NVMe passthrough ensures that future high-IOPS database deployments are fast and efficient.
  • Fast activation. From planning to full operation in under two hours.
